Kayla Quote: "Remember the pre-cancerous surgery? Was it March 28th? or April 1st? My heart viciously failed during it. It's my fifth heart failure in life, then five surgeries followed - was in a sedation coma for 2 or 3 weeks, don't remember anything, just random nightmares - I was in a mental asylum on the street and people yelled at me a lot..." Kayla wrote on her paper on her clipboard to a friend
Short Synopsis: Kayla is still progressing and in pain. There is a lot of discussion of where to make some positive changes to manage her pain. We are researching hypnotism as something to try. Mike will look on-line for New York City hypnotists. Everyone is in agreement that it is worth a try.
Long Story Kayla's favorite cat, Babee, is enjoying the spring. He goes out early in the morning on his routine to try his luck at hunting. Since he is young, he is still learning about what he can and can't catch. He has been after squirrels and birds for months and it is very comical. Now he is coming into his own after watching Rheu and Mooms and they are good hunters, especially greusome Rheusome.
Babee has brought in a dead mouse and I find him eating it in the upstairs bathroom. I leave him alone - he is relishing it. He eats everything but the intestines - even the tail. Then he settles down for a nice long nap. I pick up the bath mat and clean out the tiny bit of blood. I am not concerned for his health as he gets all his shots. None of the cats bother much with the wet food that I try to entice them with. They only lick the sauce and leave the meat when they do get it.
I keep up the regular routine.
Kayla loves to put out dry food in her room right next to the tall dresser. She enjoys listening to the cruching sounds in the middle of the night as each cat takes turn eating. This is their favorite spot in the house for eating. They also have several bowls downstairs below their cat door with water, wet food and dry food. Upstairs by the French doors, they have a big blue bowl for water.
Tonight is Show Time and there is a lot of excitement! Sixty two singers, stage crew, Daniela - our musical creative director and Steve, our choreography and stage manager - it's all coming together incredibly well!
This singing is my refuge....it saves me. This group is the most positive energizing group I have ever been involved with. There is an electric current in the air. It snaps and is on fire. There are many soloists with beautiful, different voices. Each time they sing I can't wait to hear them. It is never boring. It's uplifting.
When I am in their fold, I am completely happy. To be contributing, to be a part of this big singing team - there are no words to describe how this feels. I look around and others feel the same way.
Michael gives me a ride to the school where we are going to perform. We fight in the car. We are both incredibly stressed and exhausted. It is hard to stay on the same page together. We are not allowed to have cars in the parking lot because our patrons who are coming to see us need room for their cars. It is a huge parking lot and will fit many cars.
I walk in the building and see Mike Macri and I explode in tears. He is one of the stars with many solo parts. He was battling a virus the day before but today he says he is good. He gives me a big hug and wonders how Mike and I are even able to go through this terrible ordeal with our daughter.
I change into my show clothes in a bathroom far away and put on my make-up. I eat some food. I am not interested in being with too many people right now. I am fully ready to sing except for one song. I am still studying the words for that one. I have been practicing with my CD in the car for months now. I know all the words. I know all the music. I know how to emote.
I see Mike again before we are ready to go on. In five minutes, the show will begin.
He gives me a big smile as he studies me carefully,
"I am great now. IT'S SHOW TIME! Hey, look Mike, even the red is out of my eyes."
"It's therapy for you, isn't it?"
"It has nothing to do with that. It's the music. I love the music."
The parking lot is completely full. The singers are quiet. We are ready as we line up quietly. We go to our assigned seats and the curtain opens.....
